Greece:Glossary

A system of continuing training and assessment for trainers and executives in non-formal Education as well as teachers at Second Chance Schools is being developed with a view to ensuring quality in Lifelong Learning.  In this context various programmes are implemented including the following:

The Teacher Training Programme for Adult Education, co-funded by the European Social Fund and national resources and attended by 5,500 staff members and adult trainers, irrespective of their position, specialisation, thematic field or teaching subject.  The programme includes a main part of trainers’ training of 100 hours as well as a 25 hour programme on:

  • Training Second Chance Schools teachers
  • Training Lifelong Learning executives
  • Training Lifelong Learning executives  in counseling issues
  • Training in e-learning.
  • Training in vulnerable social groups.

In fact, the application process for participation in the certification process of educational adequacy of Adult Educators of non-formal Education began in May 2014 by virtue of Ministerial Decision no. GP/20082/10.23.2012 entitled "System Certification of Educational Adequacy of Adult Educators of Non-Formal Education" (GG. 2844/B/2012).

Furthermore, as of January 1, 2014 ERASMUS+ is the new programme of the European Commission, which accumulates and replaces the seven previous European programmes concerning Education and Training, Youth and Sports: Lifelong Learning Programme (Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci, Comenius, Grundtvig), Youth in Action, Erasmus Mundus, Tempus, Alfa, Edulink and the bilateral cooperative programme with industrialised countries that expired in 2013.  The Erasmus+ program is structured into 3 Key Actions.

Adult Education

Under Key Action 1 "Learning Mobility Of Individuals”

The Action "learning mobility for adult education staff" offers the opportunity to adult staff training organisations to improve their basic competences and skills through transnational mobility activities.

Under Key Action 2 "Cooperation for Innovation and the Exchange of Good Practices”

TheAction "Strategic Partnerships" in the field of Adult Education concerns the development and strengthening of transnational cooperations between organisations that engage in adult education or other socioeconomic sectors, in order to bring positive and long-lasting effects on the participating organisations, on the policy systems in which such Actions are framed as well as on the persons directly or indirectly involved in the organised activities.

As part of a strategic partnership in the field of Adult Education the following actions are supported:

  • activities aimed at establishing the exchange of good practices
  • activities that promote the implementation of innovative practices
  • activities which facilitate recognition and validation of knowledge, skills and competences acquired through non-formal and informal learning
  • activities of cooperation between regional authorities to promote the development of adult education and their integration in actions of local and regional development
  • transnational initiatives fostering entrepreneurial mind-sets and skills, to encourage active citizenship and entrepreneurship (including social entrepreneurship).

Strategic Partnerships may also organize transnational training, teaching or learning activities of individuals, in so far as they bring added value to the achievement of the project’s objectives.
