Continuous Monitoring and Evaluation

In pre-primary education, neither assessment of a child and his or her performance in relation to a given standard, nor comparison of children and their performance is relevant. Teachers should monitor and assess the individual development and learning progress of every child continuously, which enables them to guide children in accordance with their natural development, and to increase demands on them gradually.

Diagnostics

Early recognition of a child's possible problems and shortcomings and their solution (possibly timely necessary expert assistance) are other important goals of this continuous evaluation.

Written Reports (Class Register)

Every nursery school (mateřská škola), and indeed every teacher, can choose or prepare a system of monitoring and assessing children's development. The Education Act requires nursery schools to keep a class register in every class, including evidence of provided education and its course; the form of this document is not set by the law.

The Class Register project recommends three alternatives for a class register in schools. This material is intended for both assessment and reflection and should make it possible to draw conclusions to support follow-up educational activities or other pedagogical measures.

Written reports or other documents relating to a child and his or her progress in learning and development must be considered confidential and are available only to teachers or parents. Teachers should use them in their everyday work, in designing individual educational programmes, in communication with a child and for informing parents and informal co-operation with them.

Project Self-evaluation of Nursery Schools

In 2008, the project Self-evaluation of Nursery Schools was completed. It contains instructions and recommendations for carrying out self-evaluation, how to cope with the evaluation system in the school educational programme, with the self-evaluation structure, and with final evaluation. It also contains a description of some practical procedures and methods of self-evaluation including examples of school practice. Apart from the text, the publication also includes a working supplement offering a complete set of self-evaluation tools.

Decalogue for Parents of Pre-school Age Children

Basic information on a child's maturity before the commencement of compulsory schooling is included in the informative material Decalogue for Parents of Pre-school Age Children. For more information, see the relevant section on Other Documents and Programmes.
