WPE Tracking ships

Workpackage E (WPE) of ESSnet Big Data focuses on real-time measurements of ship positions derived from the so-called AIS (Automatic Identification System) data and successfully explored in the previous project round (see ESSnet Big Data I Workpackage 4 (WP4) on AIS data). Its objective is to develop functioning statistical production prototypes, including procedures and technical solutions, to produce experimental maritime, inland waterways and environmental statistics based on AIS data.

WPE is carried out by representatives of three ESSnet Big Data partners: CBS (Statistics Netherlands) which is leading WPE, and Elstat (Statistics Greece) and GUS (Statistics Poland).

More background information on WPE can be found here.
