    Glückstadt is a town in the Steinburg district of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The FLAG area consists solely of the municipality of Glückstadt and is part of the LAG AktivRegion of Steinburg. Due to its location on the Elbe river on the way to Hamburg, its long tradition lies in fish processing, mainly herring, which is not caught in the FLAG area.

    The county of Dithmarschen is a rural and coastal area located on the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein. Within this area, the fishing communities of Büsum, Friedrichskoog, Marne and the municipality of Wöhrden, form the territory covered by the FLAG.

    The fisheries area “Nordfriesland Nord” is located on the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein, just under 20 km from the Danish border. It is a rural region with a strong tourism sector. In the immediate vicinity of the FLAG lie the North Frisian Islands of Sylt, Föhr and Amrum and the numerous Hallig islands (tidal islands).

    The FLAG territory is situated in the middle of the Asturian coastline in Northern Spain with Cape (“Cabo”) Peñas as a remarkable landmark in the area. In the 19th century the canning industry experienced a boom in the coastal cities of Candás and Luanco. Nowadays, the fishing industry has very much declined and the predominantly small scale fleet has been reduced to around 70 vessels and is still decreasing.

Its important urban centre, the Brest Metropolis is home to the second biggest military port in France. However, with over 600 km of coastline, the area is overwhelmingly defined by its maritime identity.

The area is steeped in maritime and cultural heritage as well as natural resources. Unfortunately, these characteristics are not widely known.

    The FLAG area consists of six municipalities and 11 communities. It covers the districts of Larnaca and Famagusta in the eastern part of Cyprus and represents 5.6% of the total area and 19.5% of the total coastline of the country. Fishing is an important activity in the area, with 4.3% of its workforce employed in the primary sector, 67% of which work in fishing.
