Water quality

Gotland is a vibrant rural region with belief in the future and a strong brand recognised nationally as well as internationally for high quality and untouched nature. However, its natural and cultural resources can be used in a better way to further strengthen economic growth. Gotland is also Sweden's largest producer of crayfish.

The FLAG area consists of woodland and a large number of lakes and rivers as well as some off-shore islands. This is a coastal region that includes eight municipalities in total. Bräcke, Ånge, Timrå and Sollefteå are inland municipalities with lakes and rivers connected to the coastal waters. Sundsvall, Kramfors, Härnösand, and Örnsköldsvik municipalities have inland lakes and rivers as well as coastal maritime environments.

The FLAG area includes the coast, rivers, and lakes along the Gulf of Bothnia, roughly 200km north of Stockholm. The landscape is dominated by pine woodlands and many inhabitants live in smaller towns and in rural areas.

The FLAG is situated next to the capital city of Schleswig-Holstein, Kiel in the north of Germany and borders the Baltic sea to the west of this city. As a brack water sea, the Baltic offers only a relatively small number of fish species.

The FLAG West area comprises the coastal zones of counties Galway and Clare and has a considerable seafood industry, with over 450 registered boats, and over 350 fishermen. Targeted species include lobster, crab, crayfish, shrimp, scallops and oysters.

The FLAG area lies in Eastern Macedonia, near the Turkish border. It can be characterised economically by the development of tourism, especially on the island of Samothraki.

The FLAG is situated in the South-Eastern part of Poland, on the border between the Podkarpackie and Lubelskie regions. There is a long tradition of fish farming in the area and it remains important to the local economy.

The area covers seven municipalities north of the city of Warsaw, and is unique in the Mazovia region in that 8% of its surface is covered by water. This is due in part to the meeting of three large rivers: the Vistula, the Narew and the Bug.

The FLAG is in an area of wide valleys and three large rivers: the Warta, the Bzura and the Ner. The fisheries sector consists of small-scale fish producers in ponds, mainly producing carp.

The FLAG area is situated on the Atlantic coast and has a strong maritime history and attractive environment. With cities such as La Rochelle and the island of Ré, the area is a stronghold for marine tourism, blue growth and maritime economy.
