The North Sardinia FLAG runs for 931 km along the northern coast of the island which features a jagged coastline, small and sandy or rocky coves and only a few long stretches of beach. The north-eastern part of Sardinia is mostly mountainous with typical granite areas found in the Gallura region.
The FLAG area is situated in the western part of Sicily and the region’s economy is largely dependent on the sea. Fishing and canning are the two main local industries and fishers typically catch tuna using the ‘mattanza’ technique.
The territory of the FLAG extends for a stretch of 70km of coast and includes the first (Ancona) and the third (Civitanova Marche) most important ports of the Marche Region. The prevailing economic sectors include manufacturing, industrial, crafts and service industries.
