    The 2003-2013 period in Sweden saw a number of exchange visits with FLAGs from other Member States, including exchanges that led to projects to introduce new approaches to other countries. In 2014-2020, FLAG cooperation is not mandatory in Sweden, but FLAGs had to indicate in their strategies how much funding they planned to allocate to it.

    Cooperation is strongly encouraged by the programme authorities in France and FLAGs were required to lay out their plans for cooperation within their local development strategies in their bid to gain EMFF funding. In some cases, cooperation is viewed as a transversal tool to strengthen the impact of all areas of FLAG work and, in other cases, cooperation is programmed as an area of work in its own right with specific objectives.

    The Gribskov FLAG area is situated in the north of the island of Sealand. It includes the city of Gilleleje, a lively commercial centre, which is home to the region’s largest fishing port and only fish auction. The city is also an important visitor destination, with tourism and fishing being the main economic sectors in the FLAG area. Except for herring, all the fish landed in the area is exported and not processed locally.
