FLAG Factsheet
The Tunera FLAG is situated in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and consists of coastal and mountain areas where there is a longstanding fishing tradition. There are 46 active fishing vessels in total, most of them under 12m in length. Six fishing ports are situated along the coast: Bakar, Crikvenica, Jadranovo, Klenovica, Kraljevica and Novi Vinodolski, and there are fish markets in Kraljevica, Novi Vinodoski and Crikvenica. The only region designated for fish and shellfish farming is ‘Uvala Žrnovnica’ (the city of Novi Vinodolski).
The main challenges faced by the FLAG are high levels of youth unemployment and the long-term unemployment of women (especially in the over 50 age group). Emigration from the FLAG area as well as the lack of interest for fishermen’s job are becoming major problems and the number of professional fishermen in the area is constantly decreasing. Very low consumption of fish per capita is a problem too, so there is a need for adding value to locally caught fish and for promoting and increasing consumer awareness.
The FLAG has eight protected areas: the Risnjak national parks (in Baker and Lokve), the Hrast u guljanovom dolcu I and II nature monuments (in Crikvenica), the Debela lipa and Velika rebar special reserves, the Lokvarka nature monument, the Golubinjak forest park and the Bijele i Samarske stijene nature reserve.
The FLAG strategy has three main objectives:

In the FLAG strategy, there is an action plan for publishing calls. This plan indicates that the FLAG will be announcing calls two times a year until 2020. More information can be found on the FLAG website.
The FLAG has experience in communication with people who are working in the fishing industry. The FLAG is interested in cooperation projects promoting social well-being and cultural heritage, creating new jobs and supporting the diversification of fisheries activities.
The Tunera FLAG shares its legal structure with the Vinodol LEADER LAG and the two entities share certain board members. However, the FLAG and LAG are implementing CLLD with separate strategies under the EMFF and EAFRD respectively.
The key partners making up the FLAG partnership are the seven municipalities (Grad Bakar, Grad Crikvenica, Grad Kraljevica, Grad Novi Vinodolski, Općina Fužine, Općina Kostrena, Općina Lokve), local fisheries businesses (Ribar, Sipar, Vilmar, Gajeta, Tina, Obrt Ribar) and civil sector organisations (‘Ajkula’ and ‘S vjetrom kroz tišinu’).
