Area

The territory of the Trulli and Barsento F/LAG is situated within the Province of Bari and covers a total of eight municipalities. Only one of which, Monopoli, is a coastal city, located on the Adriatic coast of Apulia.

The local economy of the area is predominantly based on agriculture activities, services and trade. However, the tourism industry has seen a recent upturn, due to an increased interest in the Apulia area’s medieval architecture (the traditional buildings of Trulli and Masserie) and the area’s archaeological and environmental attributes.

Monopoli is one of the most dynamic port on the Italian Adriatic coast and fisheries represent one of the most important aspects of the local economy. The main challenge for the fishing industry in the LAG area is the integration of economic development and environmental sustainability.
