Area

Maritime activities (fishing, aquaculture, harbour and nautical activties)are at the heart of the economy of the FLAG area which also includes renewable marine energies, coastal agriculture (mainly vegetables), and strong tourism activities based on remarkable landscapes. The territory features a very active cultural life.

However, the area is facing serious environmental challenges (decreasing bio-deversity along the coast, water pollution and urbanisation), significiant employement problems - in particular for young people - and an aging population.

FLAG strategy

The FLAG strategy aims to build and realise a shared vision for its area, strengthening relations along the fisheries and aquaculture supply chains and between the sector and other actors present in the area. In particular, it focuses on:

  • Ensuring space for aquaculture activities on the waterfront
  • Improving working conditions in the sector and improving its image as an attractive career
  • Improving local knowledge and education in managing the marine environment
  • Strengthening the fishing and aquaculture sector through adding value to its products and diversifying the related activities.
