FLAG Factsheet
The Škoji FLAG covers the three islands of Hvar, Vis and Šolta which are situated in the Middle Dalmatian group of islands. There are seven local authorities, four of which are towns (Hvar, Komiža, Stari Grad and Vis) and three municipalities (Jelsa, Sućuraj and Šolta).
The region’s economy is primarily based on tourism. However, fishing traditions are deeply embedded in the area’s history and everyday life of local communities. As such, fishing still has an important role in the livelihoods of many individuals.
Local fishers are facing many challenges including poor working conditions, ageing equipment, ageing fishing vessels and the lack of an adequate fisheries infrastructure. Despite these problems, fishing tradition remains a part of local identity and fisheries-related tourism activities are becoming more and more important.
More than 13% of the FLAG’s territory is protected by Natura 2000 and SPA.

The FLAG has a total of 27 members which includes its seven municipalities (Hvar, Komiža, Stari Grad, Vis, Jelsa, Sućuraj and Šolta), a public museum, six NGOs, one individual, 11 fisheries businesses and one other private enterprise.
