The Škoji FLAG covers the three islands of Hvar, Vis and Šolta which are situated in the Middle Dalmatian group of islands. There are seven local authorities, four of which are towns (Hvar, Komiža, Stari Grad and Vis) and three municipalities (Jelsa, Sućuraj and Šolta).

The region’s economy is primarily based on tourism. However, fishing traditions are deeply embedded in the area’s history and everyday life of local communities. As such, fishing still has an important role in the livelihoods of many individuals.

Local fishers are facing many challenges including poor working conditions, ageing equipment, ageing fishing vessels and the lack of an adequate fisheries infrastructure. Despite these problems, fishing tradition remains a part of local identity and fisheries-related tourism activities are becoming more and more important.

Expertise & cooperation

As the FLAG is newly established it currently does not have any specific expertise. The FLAG, however, is interested in cooperation projects with other FLAGs in Croatia and across the EU.

Links with LEADER or other CLLD groups

The FLAG’s territory overlaps with that of the LEADER LAG Škoji. The FLAG and LAG share offices in Hvar and Komiža, have the same manager and share several board members. The two groups coordinate their work on an informal basis.
