Area

The Šiauliai FLAG area has a high potential for the development of tourism and recreational activities. Situated in the North of Lithuania, it has a rich cultural heritage and numerous natural monuments. The region has a wealth of inland waterways and ponds which are ideal for the creation and development of fisheries and aquaculture, recreational fishing activities and water sports.

Challenges for the area are centred around a lack of infrastructural development and linkages between the region’s fisheries and tourism industries. Low educational resources and training opportunities challenge. As is the conservation of the area’s environment, the renovation or development of villages and settlements where fishing activities are carried out and the conservation and enhancement of the natural and architectural heritage.
