Area

The FLAG area is situated in Western Pomerania in the county of Kołobrzeg. The Parsęta river flows through the area and at its estuary there is a harbour with many functions including trade, fishing, passenger traffic etc.

The area also has sources of mineral water for spa purposes, and Natura 2000 areas. Tourism, fishing, fish processing and recreational marine angling are very important for the area’s economy. There are 17 larger and 51 smaller fishing boats. There are three producer organisations managing three local points of first sales of fish. Challenges include the need to add value to locally caught fish and diversification into non-fishing activities, as well as preventing the pollution of water and beaches.

FLAG strategy

The FLAG intends to promote the economic development of the area using local assets, maintain the natural environment and improve quality of life. It intends to respond to the challenges by:

  • Developing marketing channels for local products and locally caught fish, especially in local gastronomy,
  • Support fishermen undertaking diversification of their business activity (e.g. into tourism), and support public infrastructure for tourism and recreation based on the fishing history and tradition,
  • Training, education and animation to increase environmental awareness of the community, preventing water pollution of the sea, rivers and lakes, preventing poaching,
  • Improving skills of vulnerable groups,
  • Promoting cooperation between the fisheries sector and NGOs, local authorities, researchers to improve their contribution to local governance.

  • Purchase of specialist equipment for the Marine School in Kołobrzeg
  • Centre for Water Sports in Dźwirzyno
  • Medieval fishing village in Budzistowo
  • Integration and promotion activities in the local community
  • Investing in a business to repair boat engines for small sports and recreational boats
  • Preventing poaching – equipment purchases by the police
