Area

The FLAG is situated in the South-Eastern part of Poland, on the border between the Podkarpackie and Lubelskie regions. There is a long tradition of fish farming in the area and it remains important to the local economy.

The region hosts several large fish farms and a salmonid fish breeding centre. It also has rich and attractive nature, much of which is protected. It’s clear therefore, that the key development potential here lies in the tourism sector.

However, a major challenge is high unemployment due to poor industrial development. Another is the overall low quality of life of the local community.

FLAG strategy

The FLAG strategy focuses on developing the fishing sector and improving the quality of life and the attractiveness of the area. The FLAG will support projects aiming to develop the local fish market, entrepreneurship and create new jobs outside the fishing sector, as well as projects related to infrastructure and services for tourism and recreation. Projects improving the environment and heritage, and restoring the production potential of fish farms following natural disasters, are also envisaged.

  • The FLAG is interested in cooperation projects that would involve exchange of experience and mutual learning on job creation activities.

Members of the partnership: 

The public sector is represented primarily by the 14 municipalities. In the business sector, there are many fish farms, including the largest ones in Starzawa and Ryda Różaniecka and the Salmonid Fish Breeding Centre. There are also several NGOs, including the Polish Anglers’ Association (Zamość branch).
