FLAG Factsheet
The FLAG is situated in the South-Eastern part of Poland, on the border between the Podkarpackie and Lubelskie regions. There is a long tradition of fish farming in the area and it remains important to the local economy.
The region hosts several large fish farms and a salmonid fish breeding centre. It also has rich and attractive nature, much of which is protected. It’s clear therefore, that the key development potential here lies in the tourism sector.
However, a major challenge is high unemployment due to poor industrial development. Another is the overall low quality of life of the local community.
There are many Natura 2000 areas, several natural reserves as well as the Roztocze Natural Park.
The FLAG strategy focuses on developing the fishing sector and improving the quality of life and the attractiveness of the area. The FLAG will support projects aiming to develop the local fish market, entrepreneurship and create new jobs outside the fishing sector, as well as projects related to infrastructure and services for tourism and recreation. Projects improving the environment and heritage, and restoring the production potential of fish farms following natural disasters, are also envisaged.

There will be periodical calls for projects: information will be available on the FLAG website: www.rlgdroztocze.org
The area of the FLAG overlaps with several LEADER LAGs: Roztocze Tomaszowskie, Rozwój Ziemi Lubaczowskiej (Lubaczów Area Development), “Z Tradycją w Nowoczesność” (From Tradition to Modernity), Kraina Sanu (Land of the San river) and Ziemia Przemyska (Przemyśl Land). While maintaining it’s own separate legal structure, the FLAG cooperates informally with another FLAG of the region, Sandomierz Forest.
The public sector is represented primarily by the 14 municipalities. In the business sector, there are many fish farms, including the largest ones in Starzawa and Ryda Różaniecka and the Salmonid Fish Breeding Centre. There are also several NGOs, including the Polish Anglers’ Association (Zamość branch).
