FLAG Factsheet
The FLAG area is situated along the river Olt. In the territory are ten urban and rural communes which all have small-scale fisheries and aquaculture industries. Other activities such as agriculture, chemical production, forestry, food and tourism dominate the local economy. Local handicrafts are recognised and sold nationwide.
The regions fisheries, although important, have been in decline in recent decades due, in large, to a lack of infrastructural investment. An increase in poaching, which often pollutes lakes and rivers due to the methods used, has impact of the area’s fisheries and aquaculture and is a central challenge. As is the region’s ageing population.
Protected areas: There are six protected areas in the FLAG territory covering a total of approximately 80.3km2:
The overall objective of the FLAG is to capitalise on regions natural potential by promoting economic growth, nurturing social inclusion and creating jobs. The strategy aims to support and develop employment opportunities within local communities which are dependent on fisheries and aquaculture.

The FLAG makes regular calls for projects. More information on future calls and deadlines can be found on the FLAG website.
There are informal exchanges between the FLAG and LAGs in the area, as well as cooperation regarding several events. The two groups share a territory and certain board members.
FLAG members include the commune of Dragoesti, five private businesses (three of which are from the fisheries and aquaculture sector), a hunter and fishermen association and a sports association and a local NGO.
