Area

The F/LAG’s area covers about 20 Km of Apulian coastline along the Adriatic Sea to the north of Bari, including three municipalities Trani, Bisceglie and Molfetta (the last two were part of the Terre di Mare FLAG) . The coast is mainly rocky and calcareous, with some long sandy and pebble shores. The economy of the more densely populated part of the area is based on agriculture, fisheries, manufacturing industry and services. This area is a national holiday resort and is also known for its prestigious Norman castles.

Industrial fishing is one of the more developed sectors in the area, due to the number and size of boats, the high skills and quality found in the entire chain and the variety of methods used to catch fishery products.

There are local challenges related to the need to combine environmental sustainability with economic growth and technological innovation. Moreover, the fishing industry is in decline both in terms of overall income and in terms of the numbers employed in the sector.
