FLAG Factsheet
The FLAG’s area coincides with the area covered by the Municipality of Pescara, a middle size city in the centre of the Adriatic coast of Italy, its shore is characterised by typical Mediterranean scrub (“la macchia mediterranea”).
The fishing, agriculture, tourism and services sectors drive the local economy. Pescara’s port is the most important of the Region and is well integrated in the urban area. For a long time, fishing was the main activity in the local economy, supported by the biggest fleet in the Adriatic Sea. Industrial fishing and processing are practiced.
In the last few years the fishing sector has gone through a crisis, due to the over exploitation of fish stocks in the past which resulted in reduced catches, and to a decreasing value of daily catches.
The Local Development Strategy will focus on diversification and enhancing fishing activities in order to improve local products and income, without increasing pressure on fish stocks. The LDS will support processing, direct sales and pesca-tourism, and will help the sector integrate the diversification of fishing operators’ income and the creation of a new touristic activities.

The FLAG will participate in national cooperation actions with other Adriatic FLAGs, to support collaboration between stakeholders in the blue economy.
