Area

The FLAG is located in the western part of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodeship, an area rich in rivers and lakes (including the Noteć river and the Bydgoszcz Canal). The fisheries activity is carried out by a few large aquaculture producers (mainly carp) and by the Polish Anglers’ Association who owns 5750 ha of waters. There is good potential and increasing interest in “put and take” angling.

However, the attractiveness of the area for tourists and anglers is low. There are very few places where fish can be eaten or bought, insufficient accommodation facilities and few activities for families.

For the fish producers, the key problems include an under-developed value chain, insufficient local processing of fish and lack of certification. The fish produced locally is not well recognised in the local market (where it must compete with cheaper imported fish), and most of it is purchased directly by wholesalers located outside the area.

There are Natura 2000 areas, Krajna Landscape Park and several areas of protected landscape covering the most valuable lakes.
