Area

The FLAG area lies along the northern coast of the Marche region, covers five municipalities (Gabbice Mare, Pesaro, Fano, Mondolfo and Senigallia) and has Axis 4 experience. The manufacturing and trade sectors in the area have experienced a contraction in recent years; as has agriculture, forestry and fisheries, which are more marginal sectors. In recent years, an increase has been registered in the services sector (housing, catering, business support).

The fishing and aquaculture industry has recorded a contraction of 17% over the past few years. Sea fishing is steadily declining while wholesale (mostly fresh fish) is slightly increasing. The main challenge for the FLAG is to support SMEs, to create a favourable environment for fishermen for staying on the market and to promote local products.

Type of area:
Sea Basins:
Protected areas:

There are various Natura2000 sites close to the FLAG area such as Fiume Metauro da piano di Zucca alla foce; Colle San Bartolo; Litorale Pesarese; Colle S.Bartolo; Litorale della Baia del Re; Fiume Metauro da Piano di Zucca alla Foce and Corso dell'Arzilla. These areas are of major importance for the work of the FLAG, as they are relevant both for the conservation of marine biodiversity and the quality of the catch and the need to initiate forms of diversification for fishermen's income related to environmental and coastal tourism.

FLAG strategy

The Northern Marche FLAG strategy seeks to strengthen the various components of the fisheries sector including fishing, processing and marketing, while remaining sensitive to local peculiarities. FLAG actions will support the diversification of small scale fishing businesses; support the promotion activities of Marche’s local fish products; support fish retail markets in ports; foster synergies between fishermen and local caterers and create connections between rural and coastal tourism. Moreover, the FLAG will launch coordinated actions to tackle territorial risk phenomena related to soil preservation, coastal defence and water quality.
