FLAG Factsheet
The FLAG territory covers an area of 261 Km2, and has a coastline of about 36 km, from the mouth of the Canale Formale del Molino (just north of the Trigno River) at the border with Abruzzo, to the mouth of the Torrente Saccione, at the border with Puglia.
The port of Termoli, with fishing, sporting and tourist activities, and ferryboat access to the Tremiti islands is the biggest port in the area, followed by the "Marina di Santa Cristiana” of Campomarino and the "Marina Sveva" of Montenero di Bisaccia.
Agriculture and fisheries play a rather marginal role in employment accounting for 6.8% of the total. Fish is mostly landed in the port of Termoli, with a limited number of boats mainly engaged in small-scale fishing and trawling. From recent census data, there are about 200 working units on board at fishing vessels.
The presence of a lot of well-preserved nature and cultural heritage, make this area an ideal tourist destination.
The aim of the FLAG is to preserve and possibly increase employment and competitiveness of the fisheries sector, while supporting economic and social restructuring linked to changes in the sector, with a view to an environmentally sustainable economic development of the coastal environment.
There are three protected areas, including what remains of the dune areas of the Adriatic (Foce Trigno - Marina di Petacciato, Foce Biferno - Litorale di Campomarino, Foce Saccione - Bonifica Ramitelli).
The Molise Coast FLAG strategy focuses on actions that will contribute positively to maintaining and creating economic and social prosperity, to add value to fisheries and aquaculture products and to promote the resource efficient and sustainable development of the coastal area.
Examples of actions are:

The FLAG will explore cooperation opportunities with nearby FLAGs in Abruzzo and Puglia. With the near FLAGs in Abruzzo and Puglia, the FLAG intends cooperating on pesca-tourism, short circuits, environmental risk prevention and preservation.
The FLAG shares territory with one LEADER LAG “GAL Trigno Castellelce”, with which it also has has some informal coordination.
FLAG members include the four municipalities in the territory, a public institute for animal health, five cooperatives and associations representing fisheries, aquaculture, leisure fishing and services and one port and maritime services company.
