FLAG Factsheet
The FLAG is located on the Baltic coast in the region of Western Pomerania. This area has a long tradition of small-scale fisheries whose boats are operated from the beach. They catch mainly flounder and cod. There is also aquaculture production (mainly trout) and several large fish processing plants.
Challenges include high unemployment and low level of business development, a high dependence on social benefits, insufficient infrastructure and insufficiently used tourism potential. Incomes of the fisheries sector (especially the coastal fleet) are very low.
Over 18% of the area is protected. There are many Natura 2000 Special Areas of Habitats Conservation, as well as many natural monuments. The Parsęta river and its tributaries are home to several valuable and protected fish species.
The key areas of FLAG support are as follows:
National
There will be two calls for projects in 2017, 2018 and 2019. A detailed timetable is available on the FLAG website.
The FLAG cooperates with other FLAGs on the Baltic sea coast. It is funded from EMFF only, but a part of its area is covered by two LEADER LAGs (Siła w Grupie and LGD Powiatu Świdwińskiego). These LAGs and the FLAG carry out some joint information and training activities and are planning a joint cooperation project.
There are eight representatives of the public sector (the 8 municipalities), 38 representatives of the social sector, including local NGOs and individuals, and 171 representatives of the business sector, of which 47 are fishermen.
