FLAG Factsheet
The FLAG area is situated in Zadar County and includes the territories of Pakoštane, Sv. Filip i Jakov, Tkon, Pašman and Biograd na Moru. The FLAG’s territory encompasses 46 islands in the Adriatic Sea, situated close to the mainland.
Fisheries are predominantly coastal and small-scale and there are 113 vessels registered for fishing in the region. Many vessels are registered for multi-purpose use (63.7%), which usually do not have a target species. Fishermen on these vessels tend to change their tools and methods throughout the year depending on their target catch.
Specific challenges for the area include the low income levels of the small-scale fisheries and aquaculture sectors, the sustainable development of coastal community, and the valorisation and preservation of local cultures and traditions.
There are two protected areas in the FLAG territory including the Prirode Vransko Jezero national park which is and Natura 2000 site.
