Area

The FLAG is situated on the Baltic Sea coast very close to the well-known Slowinski National Park. The area includes Leba, a fishing harbour with a small to medium-sized fishing fleet. Here we can also find fish processing as well as fish farming.

Challenges for the area include unemployment, which is higher for women than for men, and the high seasonality of employment in the tourism sector, as well as lack of cooperation between different actors in the business and NGO sector. Poverty linked to disabilities, heavy physical labour and helplessness are also important challenges.

The nearby Slowinski National Park is a UNESCO heritage. There are also several Natura 2000 areas.

FLAG strategy

 The FLAG strategy aims to:

  • Diversify the area’s economy by developing a competitive tourism sector. This involves extending the tourism season and creating jobs while maintaining a balance between tourism development and valuable protected areas.
  • Support business development through advisory services and coherent promotion of the area. In particular this includes support to businesses that add value to fisheries products.
  • Develop public infrastructure based on the water and fisheries tradition of the area.

The FLAG has designed project selection criteria in such a way as to make it accessible for all actors. It also carries out all kinds of animation activities such as  consultation and advice through meetings in municipalities or individually.
