Area

The FLAG is located in the south-western part of the Western Pomerania region, close to the German border. The area is highly rural and there are no towns of more than 20 000 inhabitants. The inhabitants of the area arrived here after the second world war, so there is a mixture of different cultures which over the last decades have merged to form a common identity.

Key challenges include unemployment and poverty, and underutilised potential of local natural assets such as lakes, rivers and forests, as well as food and cuisine based on the local agricultural and fisheries products. Fish production is carried out in fish ponds and lakes.

Key challenge for the fisheries sector (which is represented on the decision-making body by five persons out of 15) is the development of processing and modernisation of production techniques.

FLAG strategy

The FLAG implements a multi-funded strategy financed from the EAFRD and EMFF, but the amount received from EAFRD is four times higher than that received from EMFF. The EMFF funding is used to support the following objectives:

  • supporting entrepreneurship and diversification of incomes through direct sales of fish products and the development of innovative sources of income for fish farms,
  • sustainable development of tourism and recreation infrastructure around rivers and lakes,
  • improving biodiversity in water reservoirs, protecting water resources and aquaculture.

The FLAG will also organise meetings and training courses for the fisheries sector as well as fairs and culinary workshops based on fish resources.
