FLAG Factsheet
The FLAG is located in the North-Eastern part of Silesia and most municipalities are part of the Polish Jurassic Highland. There are 35 fish farms, of which 12 are quite large (and have over 20 ha of fish ponds). Their main production is different kinds of trout and carp. The area is highly rural and the rivers, lakes and fish ponds play an important role not only economically, but also from the point of view of the environment (water retention) and bio-diversity.
The challenges include lack of alternative sources of income and insufficiently developed tourism infrastructure.
There are eight Natura 2000 areas with many vauable species of birds and plants.
The FLAG intends to support beneficiaries from the fisheries sector in adding value to fisheries products by creating or developing innovative businesses. Tourism and other alternative activities will be promoted. The FLAG will encourage beneficiaries from the public and NGO sector to develop initiatives that would valorise the fisheries heritage and build on the natural and cultural assets of the area.
National
The calls for projects will be announced twice a year. Information is available on the FLAG website: www.rlgd.przyrow.pl
The FLAG does not yet have experience, as it is a new organisation. It is interested in good practices in developing tourism (looking for a partner in transnational cooperation) and in the exchange of experience on training for fishermen (inter-territorial cooperation, with eight FLAGs from southern Poland).
The FLAG strategy is funded from the EMFF only. Its area overlaps with a LEADER LAG but there is no specific cooperation. The FLAG cooperates with other FLAGs of Southern Poland, this involves exchange of experience and implementation of joint projects.
The nine municipalities forming the FLAG represent the public sector. There are several businesses, including an agribusiness cooperative and the fish farms, as well as the Polish Anglers’ Association. There are several NGOs including a hunting association, as well as other individuals.
