Area

The area is situated in the south-west part of the Baltic Sea. It is a popular tourist destination. The fisheries sector here is still important, though it is generally declining. The main species caught here are cod, flatfish, herring and eel.

The fishermen have organised themselves into a co-operative through which they sell a major part of their catch. The rest is sold directly to clients.

Specific challenges here include maintaining the economic importance of fisheries and cultivating it as part of the cultural heritage of the area. For this reason, strong relations with the tourism sector is another important aim.
