FLAG Factsheet
The FLAG is in an area of wide valleys and three large rivers: the Warta, the Bzura and the Ner. The fisheries sector consists of small-scale fish producers in ponds, mainly producing carp. The fish is sold on the local market through wholesalers or directly from the farm, but there are few processing facilities. Fishermen face administrative issues when selling fish directly and they also lack skills for on-line sales. Fish farms have low rentability due to seasonality of demand and under-investment.
The area has strong potential for the development of geothermal energy, which could be developed for instance for spa/swimming pool use and for heating. However, the tourism infrastructure is underdeveloped and linkages between the fisheries sector and tourism and gastronomy are very weak. The needs of fisheries are not sufficiently considered in water management plans.
There are many Natura 2000 areas, several areas of protected landscape, numerous natural reserves, and a landscape park.
Most of the FLAG budget will be allocated to investments supporting business development in the fisheries sector and to developing the tourism and recreational infrastructure of the area. Training and other educational activities (such as the publication of specialist articles on fish farming), targeting fish farmers and people interested in entering the sector, are also envisaged.

The “Good Roe” FLAG also takes part in an informal network of FLAGs from Southern Poland.
There are 11 municipalities representing the public sector, 18 NGOs (including many local development associations and the Sieradz branch of the Polish Anglers’ Association) and businesses (including many fish farms).
