Area

The FLAG is in an area of wide valleys and three large rivers: the Warta, the Bzura and the Ner. The fisheries sector consists of small-scale fish producers in ponds, mainly producing carp. The fish is sold on the local market through wholesalers or directly from the farm, but there are few processing facilities. Fishermen face administrative issues when selling fish directly and they also lack skills for on-line sales. Fish farms have low rentability due to seasonality of demand and under-investment.

The area has strong potential for the development of geothermal energy, which could be developed for instance for spa/swimming pool use and for heating. However, the tourism infrastructure is underdeveloped and linkages between the fisheries sector and tourism and gastronomy are very weak. The needs of fisheries are not sufficiently considered in water management plans.
