FLAG Factsheet
The FLAG is covered by three mainland municipalities (Follonica, Piombino and Scarlino) and one island (Isola di Capraia), and is situated in the northern Tyrrhenian coast of Italy. While traditional fisheries are still carried on by small fleets in the region, aquaculture has increased significantly over the last decade in terms of workers involved and impact on the economy. The FLAG area covers one national park: Parco Nazionale Arcipelago Toscano
The FLAGs Local Development Strategy is based on two priorities: the sustainable development of aquaculture in the region, and the promotion of small-scale fisheries. The strategy also aims to improve the income of local producers without increasing pressure on fish stocks, as well as protecting and supporting occupations in fisheries sector with innovation technology projects, heritage valorisation and the opening of new business channel (e.g., pesca-tourism or direct sales).

The FLAG is interested in cooperation projects which support skills and the competitiveness of fishing and tourism sectors, and those focused on the sustainable development of off-shore aquaculture.
FLAG members are the four municipalities of the FLAG area, local fisheries cooperatives, SME linked to aquaculture and other small businesses, associations for tourism and local gastronomy.
