The FLAG covers the entire 130km coast of the Emilia-Romagna region. In this region fishing and lagoon fish farming have a tradition for centuries. The local economy is mainly based on fishing, aquaculture, mari-culture and summer coastal tourism. Under the 2007-2013 programming period (EFF – Axis IV), this area was covered by two separate FLAGs (GAC Distretto Mare Adriatico and GAC Marinerie della Romagna), focusing on the revival of the local fishing community (modernising the sector and making it more sustainable), wholesale, processing and retail, youth employment and fishing tourism.
The Emilia-Romagna Coast FLAG will continue their work and further develop the areas’ historical, cultural, gastronomic, social and environmental peculiarities. It will support integration of local fisheries resources, maritime activities, cultural heritage elements and local traditions.
There are 19 protected areas
The FLAG’s strategy focuses on modernising the local fishing community, increasing employment and improving the added value and the quality of fish production and fish products. Although this is a new FLAG, the lead partner (LEADER LAG DELTA 2000) has a lot of experience in cooperation on the following themes: competitiveness and innovation in SMEs, valorisation of environmental and cultural assets in the area, and innovative tourism products. Therefore, the FLAG is willing to be a partner for defining, preparing and developing cooperation projects and setting up partnerships.
The FLAG is interested in cooperating on projects aiming at integrating land and sea products; the design of performance tools for fisheries and aquaculture, and other projects linked to supporting fisheries communities.
