Region:
Code:
DE218
Programming period:

Area

The Elbe-Roeder Triangle FLAG is situated east of the river Elbe on the border between Brandenburg and Saxony. It is a rural region with a few focal points of large industry including steel and chemical plants. The landscape is characterised by high-value vineyards along the Elbe river and pond landscapes in the Roeder riverside floodplain.

This area has been used for pond farming for about 300 years. The ponds were designed for purely economic reasons and served exclusively for carp pond farming.

There are three companies in the Elbe-Roeder-Dreieck area, which manage ponds of around 280 hectares

The production, processing and marketing of fish, in particular carp, plays a rather small role in the Elbe-Roeder-Dreieck, but is very important in terms of regional identity.

The FLAG’s challenge includes preserving these activities and the pond eco-system they depend on.

Sea Basins:
Protected areas:

Three nature protection areas, including the Gohrischheide and the Elbniederterrasse, are situated in the FLAG territory. They have a high value for conservation and recreation. The whole riverine area of the Roeder river is classified as landscape protection area with an important function for bird migration and conservation.
