FLAG Factsheet
The territory of the FLAG extends for a stretch of 70km of coast and includes the first (Ancona) and the third (Civitanova Marche) most important ports of the Marche Region. The prevailing economic sectors include manufacturing, industrial, crafts and service industries. In the fisheries sector, commercial fishing is most important with 400 fishing companies accounting for 1 500 employees, while aquaculture still has a marginal role, although there is a significant potential for it in the area.
Innovation in the fisheries sector is unfolding slowly, and would need a boost in the area to better exploit the new opportunities offered by the blue economy. Moreover, integration with other sectors and actors in the area are key for making the fisheries communities more sustainable.
The Regional Park “Monte Conero” is partially included in the area (tourism potential).
The FLAG’s priority is to revitalise the fishing industry by increasing its attractiveness – not only in terms of economic production but also in terms of culture, traditions and heritage. The FLAG intends to support the development of an integrated territorial project that can exploit all the potential for innovation, which is yet untapped in the area. The competitiveness and innovation of the fisheries sector, and new opportunities offered by the blue economy will be supported by the FLAG to generate business development and new, better jobs.
