FLAG Factsheet
The FLAG area “Fischereihafen Bremerhaven“refers to the fishery port of Bremen/Bremerhaven. After 100 years of prosperity, the crisis in deep-sea fishing in the 1970´s and 80´s had a significant impact on Europe´s leading destination for landing and processing of fish.
The main challenges were, and still are, creating new jobs by diversification. The initiated process of diversification is to be continued through an innovation-oriented development and growth strategy.
The four main objectives of the FLAG strategy are:

BIS Bremerhavener Gesellschaft für Investitionsförderung und Stadtentwicklung mbH (company for economic development for Bremerhaven), Senator für Wirtschaft, Arbeit und Häfen (municipality), Werbegemeinschaft "Schaufenster Fischereihafen" GbR (organisation of local companies of the fishing industry and tourism sector), HK Bremen – IHK für Bremerhaven (chamber of commerce and industry), Deutscher Hochseefischerei-Verband e. V. (organisation for deep-sea fishery), Naturfreunde Deutschland (environmental NGO), Thünen-Institut für Seefischerei (Institute of Sea Fisheries), a representative of small and medium-sized local businesses, a representative of the local initiative for the development of an adjacent district (because the FLAG area itself has a small population).
