FLAG Factsheet
The FLAG area is located in the Braila Plainm in the South-east of the country, in the basins of the Danube, Calmăţui and Siret rivers. The natural environment, through its hydrographic network, relief, vegetation and fauna, fosters the development of the fisheries sector and tourism.
The main demographic challenges are low birth rates, an aging population and migration. Skill levels are low and this exacerbates the low employment rate. The area is facing insufficient investments especially in rural areas, where healthcare and social infrastructure are poorly developed. Agriculture is the main occupation in the county. Industry is almost entirely concentrated in the city of Brăila and the predominant industries are food and textiles.
The fisheries here are characterised by poor infrastructure. The processing and marketing of fish activities is underdeveloped and not integrated in viable economic chains. Furthermore, tourist and recreational facilities are few.

The protected areas occupy a total area of 601,94 km².
The FLAG strategy seeks to support sustainable development, by harnessing existing economic, natural and human potential, diversifying, developing and streamlining the sectors of the economy in the area and aiming at improving the quality of life for the inhabitants.
More specifically, the strategy aims to strengthen and develop the infrastructure and services for fisheries, aquaculture and tourism, support related and alternative fishing and aquaculture activities, preserve local identity and protect the environment.

The FLAG is interested in national and transnational cooperation - environmental protection, promotion of traditions, partnership development, training and transfer of best practices.

The FLAG shares a legal structure with the local LEADER LAG and their territories overlap. They also have a common Programme Management Committee which allows them to share strategies.
The FLAG shares territory with the local LEADER LAG and their territories overlap. They also coordinate their work informally with other CLLD groups in the area.
The FLAG membership includes the South-East regional development agency, Braila county and municipality, the chamber of commerce, the association of sporting hunters and fishermen of Braila county, the Stancuta association of fishermen, the local association of young entrepreneurs and several aquaculture units.
