The Blue Coast FLAG area’s main features are the wide hill zone, interrupted by a big river valley, and several densely populated coastal towns. The sandy shore has a Mediterranean climate and scrub.
The most important assets of the local economy are the environment and the tourism. The fishing sector is led by a small fleet and the small-scale fishery. The value of the blue economy is equal to the 4% of the total. The biggest challenge is to enhance the collaboration between private and public operators
The FLAG area has four protected areas: The Marine Protected Area of “Torre del Cerrano”, The regional natural reserve “Borsacchio”, the coastal biotope “adriatico di Martinsicuro e Villa Rosa” and the natural oasis “Le fonti del Vascello”.
FLAG’s main aim is to become a local fishing centre involving local administrations and institutions, research and higher education institutes, enterprises, associations with special attention to the environmental associations. The local development strategy is intended to promote both environmental and gender equality opportunities, to enhance and develop the innovation of supply chains, and the sustainable development of the tourism sector.
