FLAG Factsheets

Fisheries Local Action Groups (FLAGs) are partnerships between fisheries actors and other local private and public stakeholders. Together, they design and implement a local development strategy to address their area´s needs be they economic, social and/or environmental. Based on their strategy, the FLAGs select and provide funding to local projects that contribute to local development in their areas, involving thousands of local stakeholders.

    Pinna Nobilis FLAG

    The FLAG area is situated in the north of Croatia near the border with Slovenia and close to Italy. The area’s key industries are tourism and other services, agriculture and fishing, focusing mainly on sardines and anchovy; there are also two aquaculture farms producing shellfish.

    Istarski Svoj FLAG

    The FLAG’s territory extends along the west coast and in the inland part of the Istrian peninsula. As the FLAG area includes some of the most popular tourist destinations of the Upper Adriatic, tourism is the most important economic activity, relying on highly developed hotel and private sector capacities.

    Istarska Batana FLAG

    The FLAG area is situated in the south of the Istrian peninsula. All local self-government units, apart from the Svetvinčenat municipality, are coastal. The area is very rich in historical and cultural heritage which to a large extent is linked with the sea and fisheries. A significant part of the area is under the protection of Natura 2000.

    The Alba FLAG is situated in the region of Istria in the western part of Croatia and in the northeastern part of the Adriatic Sea. The area has a longstanding tradition of fisheries and aquaculture, industries which contribute significantly to the local economy.     Tunera FLAG

    The Tunera FLAG is situated in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and consists of coastal and mountain areas where there is a longstanding fishing tradition. There are 46 active fishing vessels in total, most of them under 12m in length.

    Vela Vrata FLAG

    The Vela Vrata brings together islands of Cres and Lošinj, and their respective towns and municipalities, and the city of Opatija, municipalities of Lovran and Mošćenička Draga on the coast.

    Tramuntana FLAG

    The Tramuntana FLAG covers five local self-government units: Senj, Karlobag, Lopar, Rab and Novalja. The units are situated in the counties of Primorje-Gorski Kotar and Lika-Senj. Karlobag and Senj are coastal areas and the regions of Lopar, Novalja and Rab are located inland.

    The Tri Mora FLAG is situated in the central part of Adriatic coast in Zadar County, under the Velebit mountain range and stretching over the Velebit channel.

    Lostura FLAG

    The FLAG area is situated in Zadar County and includes the territories of Pakoštane, Sv. Filip i Jakov, Tkon, Pašman and Biograd na Moru. The FLAG’s territory encompasses 46 islands in the Adriatic Sea, situated close to the mainland.
