    The Vidourle Camargue FLAG has collaborated with local stakeholders on a pilot scheme for collecting and recycling marine litter. The mix of plastic waste collected by the local fishermen are recycled all together thanks to an innovative industrial process.

    The North of Tyne FLAG has linked up with a local food NGO to deliver a programme aimed at inspiring young trainee chefs to use more seafood. The initiative is focused on raising the awareness and profile of local and lesser-known fisheries products, while also tackling youth unemployment.

    FARNET's 8th transnational seminar took place from 2-4 April 2019 in Bantry, Ireland. The seminar was an opportunity for FLAG managers to explore ways in which their FLAG areas can become “smarter” by doing things differently and investing in imaginative ideas to tackle existing challenges. It was also be a chance to reflect on how to work towards smarter strategies for the future.

    - Cooperation Call
    Deadline: 31.01.2019 - EASME has recently opened a Blue Economy Call, with a total budget of €18.7 million from the EMFF. The call focuses on 3 topics: Blue Labs (Topic 1), Blue Careers (Topic 2) and Blue Economy (Topic 3). The first two of which might be particularly interesting for FLAGs.

    The Venetian FLAG is looking for partners in the context of INTERREG Alpine Space. Their project idea aims to protect the environment by reducing the amount of plastic that reaches the sea from rivers upstream.

    - Publication
    This study forms an understanding of the representation of women working in FLAG areas and assesses the level and types of support FLAGs provide to these women. The findings add to the wider understanding of the number and roles of women working in the fisheries and aquaculture industry and analyses how FLAG support to women varies and is implemented. FLAG support to women is defined as (1) a project with a female project promotor, when the project is privately invested and/or (2) other FLAG activities where the primary objective is the support of the women in the FLAG area.
