Taking action on small-scale fisheries and building cooperation in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea

During the first meeting of the Working Group on Small-Scale and Recreational Fisheries, concrete steps were taken to enhance collaboration and promote synergies for the sustainable development of small-scale fisheries in the Mediterranean and Black Sea. Several organizations, including the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM), the FishMPABlue2 project, the Low Impact Fishers of Europe (LIFE) Platform, the Mediterranean Advisory Council (MEDAC), the network Marine Protected Area managers in the Mediterranean (MedPAN) and the WWF, have decided to join forces with the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) in order to identify cooperation opportunities on ongoing and future projects, to share knowledge and develop a long-term coordination mechanism.

A follow-up meeting will be held to further the common vision, begin mapping case studies and concretely determine the next steps. Find out more about the meeting on the GFCM website here.
