IYAFA: FLAGs share ideas on getting their communities involved in global campaign

FARNET and FAO organised a workshop on the upcoming International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA) on the 15 September 2021, which was attended by more than 50 FLAGS. IYAFA 2022 is an opportunity to showcase the potential and diversity of small-scale artisanal fisheries and aquaculture, and points to the benefits which can be gained from facilitating partnerships and cooperation with fishers, fish farmers and fish workers to achieve sustainable development. Given the importance of FLAGS in supporting artisanal fisheries and aquaculture in the EU, this event aimed to encourage linkages between FLAGs and IYAFA. It was encouraging to see that a third of the FLAGs mentioned said that they would definitely link some of their activities with IYAFA in the coming year, and the majority of the rest expressing an interest in finding out more.
