Fit for the future: Atlantic and North Sea FLAG Seminar

Focused on the Atlantic and North Sea FLAGs, this 12th FARNET seminar completed the series of sea basin specific events for FLAGs (following on from the Mediterranean and Black Sea, and Baltic and Inland FLAG seminars). By bringing together FLAGs with geographical proximity, discussions focused on themes of common interest and potential cooperation, such as: the role of artisanal fishers in the future FLAGs; opportunities linked to algae; renewable energies in marine spaces; and how to tackle the problem of marine litter. In addition to sea-basin specific topics of interest, transversal themes running through this seminar were the quality and effectiveness of the activities that FLAGs undertake. In particular, the seminar offered good practices and working groups on project selection procedures and criteria design; animation and stakeholder involvement; and FLAGs’ work monitoring and evaluation.
