Event
On behalf of the Directorate General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE) of the European Commission, and in collaboration with DGs AGRI, REGIO and EMPL, the FARNET Support Unit organised a major event showcasing how thousands of citizens are successfully using the “bottom-up” approach for sustainable development in their areas, known as CLLD (community-led local development).
Launched in rural areas with LEADER almost 30 years ago, successfully trialled in fisheries and aquaculture areas in 2007-2013, and integrated for the first time under all European Structural and Investment Funds in the 2014-2020 programming period, the concrete results of CLLD were be put in the spotlight.
An exhibition of 40 CLLD-supported projects from the different Funds, thematic working groups and a panel discussion between local beneficiaries and high-level decision-makers all contributed to the first-ever glimpse of how CLLD is changing lives in urban, rural and coastal areas alike.
450 participants, including Local Action Groups, project beneficiaries, administrations, decision makers and experts from different fields, came together to reflect on how CLLD has and can continue to support local action in a world in transition, fostering more environmentally and economically sustainable - and inclusive - communities.
