FARNET at the EWRC 2020

The European Week of Regions and Cities (#EURegionsWeek) is the biggest annual Brussels-based event dedicated to cohesion policy. It comprises workshops, labs and debates in which cities and regions showcase their capacity to create growth and jobs and prove the importance of the local and regional level for good European governance. With the COVID-19 situation, in 2020 most EWRC events are organised online. FARNET co-organises two digital EWRC events, on the 14th and 22nd October 2020.

1st event - 14 October 2020 at EWRC 2020
FSU co-organises a European Week of Regions and Cities Participatory Lab on facilitating bottom-up CLLD in practice.

The FARNET Support Unit will co-organise a European Week of Regions and Cities (#EURegionsWeek) digital event, in cooperation with DG AGRI: a participatory lab on ‘facilitating bottom-up CLLD in practice’, as part of the thematic cluster on ‘empowering citizens’. A key factor enabling local stakeholders to tap the full potential of CLLD is avoiding complexity and administrative burden linked with its implementation and remaining flexible to address unforeseen crisis situations. This session will primarily target Managing Authorities of EU funds and will focus on improving delivery systems for CLLD in the next programming period by sharing tools and relevant practices. Participants will be able to ask questions and exchange experience on the specific delivery challenges they are facing.

2nd event - 22 October at EWRC 2020

FSU co-organises a European Week of Regions and Cities Workshop on local action for biodiversity in fisheries and aquaculture

This online #EURegionsWeek workshop focused on "Local action for biodiversity in fisheries and aquaculture" will be co-organised by DG MARE and the FARNET Support Unit (FSU), on 22 October from 11h30 to 13h00. Interpretation will be available in English, French and Spanish.

The EU Biodiversity Strategy adopted by the European Commission in May 2020 includes an action plan to bring Europe's biodiversity on the path to recovery by 2030. However, the preservation of ecosystems and biodiversity does not have to come from the top and many Fisheries Local Action Groups (FLAGs) have undertaken local actions to preserve or restore biodiversity in their area, which can also be a source of economic development and job creation. The workshop will illustrate this approach by looking at three projects supported by FLAGs: Wetland renovation by the Stockholmsbygd FLAG in Sweden; Training courses for fishermen on the marketing of fishing-tourism and ecotourism products by the Spanish Costa Brava FLAG; and the  ‘Tarta-Tur’ project by the VeGAL  FLAG from Veneto, Italy, for the conservation of turtles and dolphins.
