Romanian fishing activities mostly take place in lakes and ponds, rivers and marine waters from the Black Sea. The 22 Romanian FLAGs promote economic diversification and new forms of income that can help revitalise their communities.

Romania is one of just five Member States, organising FLAG cooperation at National level, with specific calls for projects that it plans to open once a year starting in 2020.

Situated on the Black Sea, the FLAG area is characterised by a series of reliefs and cliffs. Inland the region includes a network of lakes and the territory is crossed by a significant number of rivers, including the Casimcea with a length of 50km and a river basin of 740km2. The Mostiștea river is a tributary of the river Danube in Romania. The river source is near the village Dascălu, northeast of Bucharest and it flows into the Danube near Mânăstirea. The local economy of the area is predominantly agricultural. Fisheries and aquaculture activities are small-scale and often combined with agri-tourism and recreational activities.

The FLAG territory is in the northwest of Constanta County. In the centre of the territory is the city of Harsova which is surrounded by the four communes of Ghindaresti, Horia, Topalu and Crucea. The area situated between the Danube and the Black Sea is characterised by rolling hills and is steeped in history.

The FLAG area is situated along the river Olt. In the territory are ten urban and rural communes which all have small-scale fisheries and aquaculture industries. Other activities such as agriculture, chemical production, forestry, food and tourism dominate the local economy. Local handicrafts are recognised and sold nationwide.

The FLAG is predominantly located in rural areas where activities such as agriculture and fishing are commonplace. The region is situated between Siret and Prut, in the north-east part of Romania. The territory boarders Ukraine in the north and Moldova in the east. At the west and south it has borders with the Suceava and Iași Counties.

FLAG Neamt is in North-eastern Romania. The region is predominantly rural with an economy mainly based on agriculture (including fishing and aquaculture), forestry and tourism. The region’s primary sectors include the chemical and processing industries.

The FLAG is situated in the southern and central part of the Romanian Plain. The landscape is flat, crossed by many small rivers. To the north are the Argeş and Dâmboviţa Rivers. To the south, the area covers 55km of the Danube River which also marks the Bulgarian border.

The FLAG territory is specifically focused on aquaculture and partially includes the areas of two counties, Alba and Hunedoara, which are situated along the Mureș river basin. Economic activities in the region are spread among the construction, commerce and services, agriculture and fisheries, and tourism sectors.
