The East Liguria FLAG area covers all coastal municipalities of the provinces of Genoa and La Spezia, and is characterised by a geographical continuity and economical homogeneity based on micro and small businesses (mostly engaged in the trade and tourism sector).

The FLAG is situated in the south of the Tuscany Region on the Mediterranean Sea (Mar Tirreno). This region has a long fisheries tradition, nevertheless, the fisheries communities’ population and fleet have been reduced by 50% over the last 30 years.

The territory of the FLAG extends for a stretch of 70km of coast and includes the first (Ancona) and the third (Civitanova Marche) most important ports of the Marche Region. The prevailing economic sectors include manufacturing, industrial, crafts and service industries.

The FLAG is located in the provinces of Nuoro, Ogliastra and Cagliari, covering the north of Baronia, the centre of Ogliastra, Sarrabus and the south of Cagliari. The FLAG has an important fisheries and aquaculture sector, accounting for 3.5% of the total number of active enterprises in the area.

The FLAG is located at the North-Eastern side of the Calabria region, close to the Gulf of Taranto. The area has important fish landing ports, fish processing enterprises and significant tourism potential, however there are challenges here linked to poor integration between sectors especially poor linkages between traditional fishing activities and tourism.

The FLAG covers the entire 130km coast of the Emilia-Romagna region. In this region fishing and lagoon fish farming have a tradition for centuries. The local economy is mainly based on fishing, aquaculture, mari-culture and summer coastal tourism.

The dello Stretto FLAG from Italy wishes to compare current states of fishing techniques, storage, distribution, gastronomic traditions and land management as well as integrated development strategies for the coastal areas of project partners. careful analysis of these factors, starting from fishing grounds to the production places, can create added value for involved territories and cultures.

The territory of VEGAC covers the entire coast between the mouth of the river Tagliamento (North) and the northern pier of the Port of Chioggia (South). Economically, the area developed since the seventies into a major seaside resort system characterized by tourist flows thanks to the large sandy shoreline north of the Venice lagoon and to the proximity to the historic city of Venice.

The FLAG area was selected based on the presence of significant fishing ports accommodating the fishing fleets operating in the maritime departments of Livorno and Portoferraio, which make use of the same fishing area and fish resources.
