Thanks to the collaboration between two FLAGs, French and Italian fishing and shellfish operators will be improving their capacity to adapt their activities to environmental and market trends, ensuring the economic viability of Mediterranean fisheries.
In Olbia, the northern area of Sardinia, the shells of mussels are no longer considered waste. With the help of the FLAG, local students and teachers are using crushed shells to create useful objects of all sorts, from moulds created by 3D printing.
A local fisheries cooperative and research institute successfully pilot the farming of warty venus clams, or “sea truffles”, diversifying the area’s aquaculture production.
The Porte a Levante FLAG was active under Axis 4 of the EFF in the 2007-2013 programming period under the name of GAC Adriatico Salentino. The FLAG territory is situated in the region of Puglia and comprises rich coastal and agricultural landscape, with numerous tourist attractions.
The Terra d’Arneo territory spans the vicinity of the Apulian coast and operates a multi-fund Local Development Strategy (LDS). The area is characterised by small-scale traditional fishing enterprises. Seasonally the area has a strong tourism industry, while fishing activities are year-round.
The F/LAG area is located along 28 Km of the Adriatic coast and stretches 30 Km into the hinterland, in the South West of Bari province, The local economy is mostly based on agriculture, services and commerce. In the recent past tourism has been of growing importance as the Apulia region has become a popular touristic destination.
The Itria Valley F/LAG occupies an area between the three main cities of the Apulia Region: Bari, Brindisi and Taranto. It is also called the Trulli’s Valley due to the presence of the traditional Apulian stone buildings. The shore is mostly rocky with small sandy bays, and it is characterised by Mediterranean scrub (“la macchia mediterranea”).
The territory of the Trulli and Barsento F/LAG is situated within the Province of Bari and covers a total of eight municipalities. Only one of which, Monopoli, is a coastal city, located on the Adriatic coast of Apulia
The coastline of the Alto Salento FLAG area covers 104km of coastline and is situated in Puglia.
Industry in the region was historically dominated by agriculture.
The FLAG area is situated in Puglia (Italy’s ‘boot heel’) and is known for white painted towns, centuries-old farmland and hundreds of kilometres of Mediterranean coastline, the longest in the country.
