AquaTT and “COEXIST”: planning interactions in coastal waters

COEXIST is a multidisciplinary project carried under the 7th Framework Project and facilitated by AquaTT, an international foundation which provides project management and training services to support the sustainable development of Europe's aquatic resources...

This project will evaluate competing activities and interactions in European coastal areas, with the goal to provide a roadmap to better integration, sustainability and synergies across the diverse activities taking place in the European coastal zone.

With the commitment of 13 institutions from 10 European countries, the partnership will provide ecosystem modelling tools to support decision-makers in coastal and marine management. Several case studies from a number of different regions will be under consideration. These case studies will represent the specific conditions and combinations of aquaculture and coastal fisheries activities that can be found on European coastal areas.

By providing a multistakeholder and centralized contact point representing their territory, FLAGs present in the areas covered by these case studies could both benefit and act as key stakeholders in this project.
