Description of the area and its main challenges

The Association of Northern Kaszubian FLAG was set up in the Pomorskie region. There are eight municipalities in the FLAG, including 4 urban and 4 rural ones. The area covered by the Local Development Strategy (LDS) is part of the Gdansk Coastal Macro-region. This area contains several territories of high natural value protected in various ways. The main activities are closely connected to its geography and include tourism, fishing and fish processing. The main challenges related to the LDS include: animation of the local community, promotion of the area, tourist infrastructure development and finding income sources for fishermen who must reduce their fishing activity or stop it altogether due to fishing quotas.

The Coastal Landscape Park covers 10% of the land area and Tri-city Landscape Park 9.5% of the FLAG area. There are 21 natural reserves in the area covering 1 976.5 hectares.
* Employment in fish processing amounts to 1 554 persons, which represents a quarter of the whole region’s employment in this sector. Among people employed in fishing (435 in sea fishing and 12 in inland fishing) the highest group is aged 45-54 (approximately 40%).
