Description of the area and its main challenges

The FLAG area is home to numerous water bodies which are used for diverse activities such as recreational fishing, tourism, boating and swimming. Regarding fisheries, most of the workers are employed in fish processing companies. At the moment, aquaculture and recreational fishing are the fastest growing activities related to the fisheries sector. Agriculture and the food industry as well as woodwork and the production of construction materials are the main economic activities in the area. The main challenges faced by the territory are the high unemployment rate and the emigration of local population to bigger cities.
