Description of the area and its main challenges

The FLAG territory forms a coherent area and includes eleven local municipalities of the Vidzeme region. There are 37 settlements in the territory of the FLAG. There is quite active civil society with 41 different NGOs which represent local cultural and educational bodies, fisheries and aquaculture employers and agriculturists.
The goal of “Brasla” Vidzeme Rural Partnership is the promotion of sustainable territory development, giving support to initiatives of the inhabitants aimed at improving the quality of life, sustainable usage of local resources and the enhancement of environmental attractiveness.
Population: 23 098 inhabitants (01.01.2008) Employment in fisheries: In the FLAG area there are 16 aquaculture breeding farms, which employ around 30 people.

Main focus of FLAG strategy

The development strategy of the "Brasla" partnership provides opportunities for local initiative groups, entrepreneurs and municipalities to propose individual solutions to the identified problems related to:- enhanced quality of life of local inhabitants;- improved access and diversification of public activities in the partnership area;- quality and accessibility of services;- providing employment opportunities and increased income for residents of the FLAG territory.

Project examples and ideas

- Creation of a fishing base on the Brasla river coast

- Improvement of the Katvari lake area and establishment of recreational services

- Improvement of recreation places and angling services in the Ruckas lake

- Development of fisheries-related infrastructure and services in the Lāde lake and surrounding area

- Development of attractiveness of Kocēni municipality villages Dauguļi and Vaidava

- Development and diversification of fisheries and tourism related services along the line of Jumpravmuiža lakes near Mazezers

- Building of a fish house for fishing tourism development.
