Description of the area and its main challenges

The FLAG territory covers the coastline of the eastern coast of Sardinia (about 200 km) that runs from Posada (Nuoro) in the north to Villasimius, in the Province of Cagliari, in the south.

Fisheries is a significant sector in the area, especially in the province of Cagliari which, despite various problems, has seen an increase in the number of fisheries vessels over the past 10 years. However, wages in the sector are low and the supply chain it is not adapted to the needs and potential of the territory. Actions will be necessary to modernize and improve the marketing of local products as well as the levels of training and education in the fisheries sector.

The analysis of the territory showed considerable development potential for the area, thanks to growth in some sectors such as tourism, which in the future could become the driving force for sustainable development throughout the region. It is a sector, however, that is currently affected by strong seasonal fluctuations and lacks coordination with adequate transport facilities.
