Description of the area and its main challenges

The FLAG South Zealand, Lolland and Falster is situated in a predominantly rural area, with a long tradition of different kinds of fishing activities. In recent decades, however, fishing activities have declined, leading to a reduction in the fleet and, consequently, a fall in the size of the local landings. Harbours in the area vary in size and functionality. Other important sectors of the local economy include agriculture and small industries while tourism has been identified as a sector with potential for growth.
